Why do people seek Therapy?

No question is too big or small to bring to therapy. Perhaps you have a sense that something in your life isn’t feeling quite right and would like to make sense of this, or perhaps you are struggling with issues within relationships with loved ones and would like for these to improve. It may be that you have been struggling with low mood, depression or anxiety and have taken the first step of seeking support.

Therapy can help with a whole range of issues and will entail some commitment in respect of time and a willingness to engage with the process.

Psychotherapy

What is Psychotherapy?

As a therapist, I provide a safe and supportive space in which problems can be explored. I listen attentively to what clients bring to sessions, asking questions, offering statements and reflections to help all (myself included) within the space to create meaning which feels helpful and useful. This process can help people to find solutions to problems that they bring to therapy and to think about problems in a different way. My ethics, values and training guide me in my approach which is collaborative working alongside clients. My aim and hope is that together we will co-construct our therapeutic relationship with one another, creating an environment that feel safe, so that problems clients are bringing, can be explored in depth.

I work with Families, Couples and Individuals and  am skilled in working with a variety of issues that clients bring to therapy.

I have over 12 years experience working within a Local Authority setting and within CAMHS and I am registered with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy)and AFT (Association of Family Therapy).

My hope within the work is that I can support people to overcome issues which have caused them distress and to find new ways of coping so that change made is sustainable in the long term.

Rather than particular techniques, the far greater predictors of positive outcomes are therapeutic relationships, or counsellor qualities in therapeutic relationships that capitalize on clients’ internal strengths.
